AN UNOFFICIAL "SHOCK TREATMENT" TRIVIA QUIZ {Revised Edition} by Joe Blevins. Try to do as many of these as you can *without* looking at the film. Thirteen stars; twelve around the circle plus one in the middle 16. The E 17. Coca-Cola 18. False; he's wearing a red flower 19. A pin shaped like two overlapping hearts 20. Four times 21. Oster 22. "Time" magazine; the cover story is "Cult Movies" (a little hard to see on the video) 29. A script called "The Brad and Janet Show," which was the original title of "Shock Treatment." 30. Ronald Reagen's 31. "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge 32. A blue and white pack of cigarettes 33. Two pictures 34. Cosmo and Nation's 35. There's a white Beta alarm clock, a picture of Freud, an empty bottle of Sominex, a bottle of water, an empty glass, and Bert's cane 36. 6:45 a.m. 37. (from l to r) John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Robert Kennedy 38. False; it says "Dentonvale" 39. The lightning bolt symbol from "RHPS." 40. (from l to r) Oliver, Betty, Bert, Cosmo, Nation, Ansalong, and Ricky 41. Her left shoulder 42. True! When she's standing on the table, watch when she raises her arm and sings the word "criminal." The sunglasses are crushed by a woman's white shoe. (Notice the heel.) The only women wearing white shoes are Nation and Ansalong. Janet's shoes are red, and Emily's are yelow. The answer is probably Nation, since she's seen moving towards Bert right before the glasses are smashed. Yet, Bert is sitting right next to Janet, and Janet's shoes are not visible in the close-up of Bert's feet. Plus, we definitely see a bit of maroon fabric, like that of Emily's outfit. But Emily is still inside Brad's cage. It's safe to say that *someone* screwed up here. 50. Five flashcubes, six pictures (another error) For extra confusion, try counting the number of unused flashcubes. (The used ones turn dark.) Ricky starts out with 5 unused ones, takes two pictures (one of Janet alone and one of Bert with Janet). After this, Harry & Emily get into the shot. Ricky looks at the pictures he's already taken and tosses them away. At this point he has 3 unused flashcubes. (So far, so good.) Then there's a cut to Harry, Janet, Bert, and Emily. Then to Cosmo and Brad. Then back to Ricky who now only has 2 unused flashcubes. (And he hasn't taken any more pictures!) Ricky takes a picture of the foursome. Then Ansalong and Nation get into the shot. He takes their picture. At this point he has 4 unused flashcubes! Cut to Cosmo and Brad. Then back to Ricky again, who now only has 3 unused flashcubes. (And again he hasn't taken any more pictures!) He takes a picture of the group. Two shots later, Ricky has 4 unused flashcubes. He takes another photo of the group. That's six photos from five magical flashcubes. Someone *really* screwed up here! 51. Cosmo 52. A bottle of green pills and a bottle of red pills 53. A poster of Ayer's Rock in Australia 54. Red 55. Sigmund Freud's. (see also #35) 56. Space Invaders Part II 57. It no longer sports the "Sanity For Today" pin. The pin is back in place when Farley takes the stage for "Faith Factory" (another error!) 58. Sanity For Today 59. "Phony medics" 60. "O Why Are We Waiting" (sung to the tune of "O Come All Ye Faithful') 61. "The Denton Daily" 62. Amongst them: "It's Ike!," "Twins Orphaned," "World Crises at a Glance," "Fast Food For Denton," and "U.F.O. Sighted Over Denton" 63. Brad(ley) 64. "By satellite..." 65. Grant Wood's "American Gothic" 98. Jeremy Newson (who played the role of Ralph Hapschatt) 99. Vance Parker 100. "leading social scientist" SCORING Each question was worth one point. If you scored... 90-100 points = you must be Richard O'Brien himself. I love your work, man! 80-89 = you've seen the film WAY too many times; have yourself committed 70-79 = you're an expert, but who trusts experts? 60-69 = you've only seen the film 20 or 30 times -- shame on you! below 60 = you probably just watch "Shock Treatment" to see Perry Bedden NOTE: There are a few other strange things in "Shock Treatment" that I didn't know how to make into questions. For example, during "Looking For Trade," notice how the table in the middle of the room vanishes while Janet is playing the video game. (Since the sequence is a dream / fantasty / drug-induced delusion, this may be intentional.) Later, during the "Duel Duet" fantasy sequence, notice that Farley starts out wearing a vest and jacket over his striped shirt. When he and Brad sit down at the dinner table, the jacket is gone. And the vest is gone by the next scene! It's a good thing the song was short, or Cliff De Young could've ended up like Danny Slepstrini! And check out the end of the "I'm Breaking Out" number. Oscar Drill does a backflip away from the microphone and ends up on his feet with his hands in the air. There's a brief cutaway to Brad's cage, then back to Oscar. He's still holding the pose, but now the microphone is right in front of him. Hmmmm.... Anyway, that's the quiz. Again, you can reach me at... joeblev@concentric.net * * * * * * * * * * * * *
